Quality and comprehensive safety are primary objectives of the Port of Barcelona in all their aspects, both in people and in the environment, goods and facilities.
This certification – issued by the auditing company Full Audit and internationally accepted – is part of the willingness of the Port of Barcelona to go beyond strict compliance with the rules for the health and safety of its staff. The implementation of measures such as those included in this certification is a clear commitment of the Port in this area, which contributes to increased motivation and efficiency of employees, amongst other benefits to the organization. The OHSAS 18001 certification can be seamlessly integrated with other management systems standards such as ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environment).
The desire to do things well also in this sense also reflects the ongoing collaboration with Labour Inspection to improve safety conditions in the normal maintenance of port facilities and the numerous works the expansion of the port has involved. This has made it possible, for example, so that in February more than 45,000 work hours had been recorded with zero accidents.
The Minister of Enterprise and Employment, Felip Puig, presided over the presentation of the quality certification in occupational hazards OHSAS 18001:20071 awarded to the Port of Barcelona. On behalf of the organization, the President Sixte Cambra, and the head of Health Resources and Prevention of Occupational Hazards, Narciso Am, received this acknowledgement of the occupational health and safety management system.
