Record high of passengers at Barcelona-El Prat Airport with more than 39.7 million passengers in 2015

– Barcelona El Prat Airport closed the year with a new record high, exceeding 39.7 million passengers. Specifically, 39,711,276 users passed through the airport facilities during the past year. December ended with 2,604,772 passengers and a growth of 8.1 % over 2014, the best December recorded so far.
It is necessary to remember that August was the best month on record in the history of the Catalan facility with approximately 4.4 million passengers.
Analysis by market
In the overall analysis of 2015 and following the trend throughout the year, the highlight of passenger growth is found in international traffic, with a growth of a 6.7%. Meanwhile, domestic traffic ended the year positively, with an increase of 3.2%.
By region, it is worth noting that all markets grew in number of passengers during 2015, except for non-Schengen EU Europe due to the decline in the Russian market, among others. In the intercontinental field, the one that experienced the greatest increase was the Latin American market with 21.7%; followed by the Middle East with a growth of 19.5%; and North America with 10%. Meanwhile, the African market increased by 4%, and Asia 0.3%.
And air cargo operations
Regarding aircraft movements, the annual figure stood at 1.8% more than 2014, with 288,878 operations. During the month of December, 19,940 landings and take-offs were made, representing an increase of 5.1% over the same month last year.
In the area of cargo, over 2015, the airport exceeded 117,000 tonnes of goods transported (117,219), which represents an increase of 14.1% over the previous year. In December, 10,520 tonnes of cargo, 19.9% more than in 2014, were recorded.
In the study of annual traffic markets, both international non-EU and EU cargo closed the year with an increase of 25.6% and 3.5% respectively, while the national market ended with a decline of 4.3%.
During 2015, both exports and imports grew. Exports increased by 18.4%, with over 59,000 tonnes, while imports did so by 10.1%, with about 58,000 tonnes.
Germany, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and the United States were the main countries to establish connections with cargo from Barcelona-El Prat Airport.
