Important project cargo operation in the Port of Tarragona

The Port of Tarragona is one of the Mediterranean ports specialising in project cargo operations (large parts or components that require assembly on the ship) which offers a specialised infrastructure for this type of cargo.

The Port of Tarragona has been the scene of the cargo operation for large parts in the project Optara that the company Schwartz-Hautmont built for six months in their facility at the Aragó i Lleida dock at the Port of Tarragona.

This large structure was divided into 28 modules, with more than 85,000 m3 and 6,000 tonnes, and for half a year was exported with different operations from the Tarragona port infrastructure to a Total refinery in Antwerp (Belgium).

The operation of the project Optara consisted of five embarkations and is one of the largest project cargo operations carried out in the Port of Tarragona.

The company that built these pieces is Schwartz Hautmont, the project design and engineering was run by Coordinadora, the logistics of transporting the parts on land (to the ship) was carried out by ALE-Aertssen. Europort was responsible for the of all the stowage operations of the project, and the shipping companies SAL and RollDock also participated.

The Port of Tarragona is one of the Mediterranean ports specialising in project cargo operations (large parts or components that require assembly on the ship) which offers specialised infrastructure for this type of cargo, as well as extensive operational areas at the docks, ro-ro ramps and excellent land and rail access.
